On the night before Christmas, the godfather Drosselmeyer gives Marie a gift – a nutcracker doll. When everyone is asleep, Drosselmeyer brings to life the doll together with the toys from the Christmas tree. They start celebrating, but suddenly they are attacked by the mice led by the Mouse King. Marie drives away the attackers. Suddenly the Nutcracker is transformed into a beautiful prince. Marie and the remaining living dolls turn out to be under the starry night and a fantastically beautiful fir tree, among flying snowflakes. They are all preparing for the royal wedding of Marie and the Prince. Marie wakes up. The nutcracker doll is still in her hands, and she is still in the familiar room. Alas, everything has been just a fairy-tale dream…
The staging is an original author’s reading by Konstantin Uralsky, based on the first ballet master producer of the ballet Lev Ivanov and the edition of the first half of 20th century by Basili Vainonen. The choreographic language is classical. It looks above all for the joke, gag, delight and the achievement of dynamism and brightness in a child’s carefree entertainment. Simultaneously it preserves the lyrical moment in a fairy-tale mood. “This is more than a fairy tale. This is the story of our life, of our childhood” – shares Uralsky.
