The spectacle is cooperation between the Stara Zagora State Opera and the Stara Zagora State Puppet Theater. The most frequently performed opera by Pergolesi – the short intermezzo La serva padrona (The Servant Turned Mistress, 1733) is truly a musical pearl from beginning to end. The plot is presented by untraditional means. The poor beautiful servant dreams of becoming a mistress and makes plans for marrying an elderly rich man. Director Slavcho Nikolov takes the action to the 60s of 20th century in New York, in order tell his “little story in the big city”. The action, instead of taking place in the house of the rich Uberto, unfolds in a lawyer’s office – the one of lawyer Uberto. The eternal themes of love and human relationships are reflected through the point of view of the modern urbanized person. In reality, nothing has lost its topicality – it simply suggests new and different means of expression, adequate to the dynamism of daily life.
