The director’s solution presents the turning of Turandot from a child into a woman. The Chinese princess perceives the world around her as in a play with dolls. She suddenly encounters love and this clash with reality makes her existence impossible. In the same way the human personages in the action have an intriguing dialogue with the dolls – a specific synthesis of personages, situations, relations… Thus the Chinese tale gets filled with lots of plasticity, dance and bright art decoration, in which through the dolls there comes to life the whole wealth of the human feelings, virtues and flaws.
