“Un Ballo in Maschera” is one of the works by Giuseppe Verdi which opened the way to the creative maturity of the composer. The director’s conception is by Slavcho Nikolov and it emphasizes the characteristics of the musical drama with a strongly expressed psychology of the participants.
The artist of the production Catalin Ionesko-Arbore adds that he is focused on the mysterious and secret love between Amelia and Riccardo and the meeting with Ulrica. The gilded masks and ornaments are combined with brightly colored ceramic fragments and long and big dark feathers. They are all placed on red carpets, the only color which shines in the dark of time and space. In reality, most periods of our life are covered with some imaginary masks in order to protect us from possible disasters. Colors always tell us the story.
