The Stara Zagora State Opera in the top 3 of the most prestigious European competition for educational opera productions

Double success of the Stara Zagora Opera – the first place in providing financial means
The ceremony of announcing the winners in the opera competition of the Association of the European Philanthropists for Opera and Ballet FEDORA – the most prestigious European platform, supporting innovations in the opera and ballet arts was held on 17 June at 21.30.
In it, the Stara Zagora Opera won a top place with its project “We are Musicians”, reaching the first three places of the significant opera competition. The winner in the educational section, in which Stara Zagora participated, became the Belgian organization PlatformK, which carries out dance training and provides participation in professional ballet and dance ensembles for people with the Down syndrome. Besides the Stara Zagora State Opera and the winner – the Belgian company “PlatformK”, the other one of the first three was the Italian “Compagnia Teatrale L’Albero”.
The idea “We are Musicians” is to create the first Bulgarian sensory interactive spectacle, suitable for children and young people with special needs. It will be preceded by music workshops, aiming at acquainting children with the classical music, ballet and musical instruments which are used in the opera orchestra, as well as establishing to what a degree the music activities improve their condition. The managing director of the Stara Zagora State Opera Ognyan Draganov declared that he will continue to work for the realization of the idea because it is exceptionally important and noble. The Stara Zagora Opera is arguably the most socially oriented opera institution in Bulgaria, which seeks different forms with which it can attract and integrate various communities to the magic of the dance and classical music. “Together with our social partners we will continue searching for financing with which we can develop our idea and create the first Bulgarian sensory spectacle.” Although it did not win the first place, the Stara Zagora Opera is a champion in the campaign for providing financial means, which FEDORA organizes for all opera institutions and companies which reached the finals of the four sections of opera, ballet, educational productions and digital innovations.
The team managed to procure totally 8,427 euros for the realization of “We are Musicians”, and beat the Royal Swedish Opera, which managed to procure 8,365 euros for its digital project “Totalityin Parts, a reenactment”, and the third in the fund-raising was the French Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, which competed in the section of opera productions and procured 5,590 euros.
The Stara Zagora Project was supported by the French company Variations International with 3,500 euros, and yet another 500 euros were added by a private donor from the circle of the philanthropists of FEDORA. The team of the Opera expressed its gratitude to the donors from Bulgaria as well, who supported our cause. The collected financial means will be used for the purchase of instruments that will be used for holding activities for children and young people.
